FAQ – MTHFR & NeuroThrive™

Frequently Asked Questions

What is MTHFR?

MTHFR (methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase) is a gene that helps your body process folate and B vitamins. Variants in this gene — affecting up to 40% of the population — can impair your ability to convert standard B vitamins into their active, usable forms. This can lead to elevated homocysteine levels, which is linked to a wide range of health conditions.

How do I know if I have an MTHFR variant?

A simple genetic test (available from your GP or privately) can identify C677T or A1298C variants. Elevated homocysteine on a blood test is also a common indicator. Symptoms can include fatigue, brain fog, anxiety, depression, and a history of miscarriage or pregnancy complications.

Why do I need methylated vitamins?

If you have an MTHFR variant, your body struggles to convert synthetic folic acid and standard B12 into usable forms. Methylated versions — methylfolate and methylcobalamin — are already in their active state. Your body uses them directly, no conversion required.

What is homocysteine and why does it matter?

Homocysteine is an amino acid produced naturally in the body. When methylation is impaired, homocysteine builds up to dangerous levels. Elevated homocysteine is linked to heart disease, stroke, neurological conditions, depression, dementia, and pregnancy complications. Normal homocysteine levels are typically below 15 µmol/L.

What conditions are associated with MTHFR?

MTHFR variants have been linked to: ADHD, autism, dyspraxia, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, epilepsy, addiction, miscarriage, infertility, heart disease, stroke, and neurological conditions.

Is NeuroThrive™ MTHFR Support safe during pregnancy?

Methylfolate is the recommended form of folate for women with MTHFR variants who are pregnant or trying to conceive. Always consult your doctor or midwife before starting any supplement during pregnancy.

How do I take NeuroThrive™ MTHFR Support?

Take 1 tablet daily with water, ideally with food. Each bottle contains 30 tablets — a one month supply.

How long before I notice results?

Most people report noticing improvements in energy, mood and mental clarity within 4–8 weeks of consistent use. For homocysteine reduction, retesting after 3 months is recommended.

Is NeuroThrive™ vegan?

Yes. NeuroThrive™ MTHFR Support is 100% vegan, Non-GMO, and gluten free.

Where is NeuroThrive™ manufactured?

Our supplements are manufactured in a GMP-certified facility in the EU to the highest standards of quality and safety.

What is the difference between folic acid and methylfolate?

Folic acid is the synthetic form of folate used in most supplements and fortified foods. People with MTHFR variants cannot efficiently convert it into the active form the body needs. Methylfolate (5-MTHF) is the active form — it bypasses the conversion step entirely and is immediately usable by the body.

Can I take NeuroThrive™ alongside other medications?

If you are taking prescription medications, particularly those affecting folate metabolism (such as methotrexate), please consult your doctor before use.
